How to Change and Oil a Lister Blade

Over time and heavy use, your blades may start to become dull on your Lister clipping and shearing machines. That is very normal and the good news for you is that they are very easy to change! Watch the video above or read the tutorial below for step by step instructions on how to change your blade set and also learn how to oil your blade to keep them running smoothly!

How to remove an old blade from the Lister Star:

Before you begin, make sure your Star is turned off and unplugged - safety first! Turn your clipper over so the blade is facing you. Place a finger on the tension screw - the screw in the top middle of the blade - and then maintain slight pressure on this screw while you flip the clipper over. This will help keep everything in place while you loosen the tension knob on the top of the clipper. Loosen the knob and remove the knob and spring. Set aside.

Turn your clipper back over and gently remove the used blade set. You should be removing 3 pieces: the bottom blade, the top blade, and the tension screw. Save the tension screw.

How to attach a new blade to the Lister Star:

First, place the top blade (or the smaller blade) onto the clipper. Next, place the bottom blade on top of the top blade. Replace the tension screw through the blades and once again, use a finger to maintain slight pressure on the screw while you flip the clipper over. Replace the spring and knob and tighten.

We will now be able to re-tension your Lister Star. Once you have tightened the tension knob, reverse the knob 1.5 turns counterclockwise.

How to oil Lister Star blades:

We recommend using a 10-point oiling method. First, place 3 drops of oil across the blade teeth - one at each end and one in the middle is good. Slightly turn the unit to the left and place 2 drops of oil where the tops and bottoms of the blades meet on the side. Do the same on the right side. Hold the clipper so the blade is down and the tension knob is up. In the black plastic, you will see 3 holes - place a drop of oil into each. Once you are done oiling, turn your Star on and let is run for a few seconds to allow the oil to work through the blades. Wipe away any excess.

Please note this instruction is only for Lister products. Do not try these methods on your Wahl clippers.
